Short answer. Commerce Manager shows “Field can't be all uppercase letters” (or, on a product, “Description in uppercase or same as title”) when a description is written entirely in capitals or is identical to the title. Rewrite descriptions in sentence case, capitalising only the first word and proper nouns, and make each one say something the title does not; a data rule can fix capitalisation across the whole feed.

What Commerce Manager means by “Field can't be all uppercase letters”
Two related rules from Meta’s products-not-showing page and data feed troubleshooting page. A description in all capital letters is not supported: change it to sentence case, capitalising only the first word of each sentence and proper nouns. And a description must differ from the title: edit it to provide more product details. The product data specification repeats both, asks for titles in title case, and allows a description up to 9,999 characters.
Both keep the product out of ads and the shop, and both are common in catalogues imported from supplier files, where capitals were the house style and descriptions were never written.
Why it happens
- Supplier data in capitals, imported unchanged.
- Descriptions generated from titles by an export that had nothing else.
- Storefront emphasis: a shouted first line on every product.
How to fix it
In Shopify
Bulk edit descriptions, or export, convert to sentence case in a spreadsheet and re-import. Where the description equals the title, add a sentence on material, size or use; a metafield with specifications can be appended by most feed apps.
In WooCommerce
Export products, convert the description columns to sentence case, and re-import with update existing. Our free plugin sends the variation description, then the short description, then the long one, so filling the short description alone gives every variation a text that differs from its title.
In a CSV or XML feed
Convert the description column to sentence case, restoring brand acronyms by hand, and replace any description equal to its title. Meta’s pages suggest a data rule for capitalisation when the problem affects the whole feed.
How long until Commerce Manager clears it
On the next upload; the product’s Status and issues updates in that session.
What FeedRobin does about it
The free feed check flags shouted titles and shows the de-shouted version; for descriptions it reports the ones that are missing or under about 50 characters, which is where title-equals-description usually shows up. It does not compare description to title directly, and says so. We never write descriptions for you, because the text has to be the text on your page.
Questions merchants ask
Does the rule apply to titles too?
Meta’s page names description as the field that cannot be all capitals and asks for titles in title case. An all-caps title reads badly and Google disapproves it under excessive capitalisation, so fix both.
My descriptions are the title plus a size. Is that “same as title”?
Close enough to fail on many products. Meta wants the description to provide more product details than the title; a sentence on material, fit or use is the difference.
What is a data rule?
A transformation Commerce Manager applies to a feed on every upload, such as changing a field’s capitalisation or replacing a value. Meta’s page suggests one for capitalisation issues affecting every description.
